Account Segments is a way to show your Insights data in tailored segments based on values from your Accounts and criteria defined by the user. The Segments will show up in all the Insights widgets available to show data only for accounts within that particular segment.
Create New Segment
To create a new segment - Go to Accounts and find the Account Segments under the upper right edit dots. On the Account Segments page click Create Segment.
Pick the type of segment you would like to create. There are three different models of segmentation all described more in details in the following sections.
- List - You manually list the Accounts that should belong to this segments
- Segment by Field - Pick one field on the account and every unique value within that field will automatically become one segment
- Custom - You create your own segment based on multiple fields and conditions
Potentially assign the segment to a group (enter the group name), which will be top menu value shown in Insights.
Pick the Account Segment Type - List. Give it a name and which segment group it should belong to.
Click on the created segment and then Change. In the Segment Definition pane pick the accounts that should be included in this segment. Press Save.
Segment by Field
This option will create multiple segments based on the unique values that are listed within the selected field.
In the example below the specific field chosen is Name (country). Press Preview and that will list the segments going to be created. If adding a specific prefix for these specific segments e.g. if you are storing many segments in the same group and would like to easily distinguish them.
Press Create to generate the segments listed on the screen.
Pick the Account Segment Type - Custom. Give it a name and which segment group it should belong to.
Click on the created segment and then Change. In the Segment Definition enter one or more conditions that should be valid for this segment. Press Use condition(s) button to see a list to the right which accounts fulfil the definition criteria.
